Baudelaire’s first publications of poetry were probably disguised, for reasons known only to himself. 11 poems published between 1844 and 1847 in L’Artiste under the name of Privat d’Anglemont—another friend in Baudelaire’s literary circle—have been attributed to Baudelaire, and in fact nine of these poems have been included in the definitive Pléiade edition of Baudelaire’s collected works published 1975–1979.
